About Us

Situated in an old walled garden in Mayfield Park, Weston, Southampton, Mayfield Nurseries works with approximately 65 people per year who are experiencing mental health problems. The project endeavours to help build the self esteem, confidence of project members whilst providing them with opportunities to learn new skills, and to engage with the local community in a real work environment.

We offer a range of horticultural training including National Vocational Qualifications in Horticulture and members of our project undertake all the tasks necessary at the nursery from seed to sale. For some, Mayfield Nurseries can provide a stepping stone to employment or further training. We work within the recovery model of mental health which looks towards the person and their hopes and aspirations.

As well as work based at our nursery premises, we also undertake grounds maintenance work for the Society of St James and we have an allotment site based in Newtown Road in Weston.

Referrals to the service are made through local community mental health teams.

The project is managed by Solent Mind, an affiliated branch of the national charity Mind.
